Blog Journal #4: The Cinescape Podcast So Far

It’s been awhile since my last blog journal entry, but I wanted to take some time to share some of the inner-workings of my thoughts and feelings about The Cinescape. As you may or may not know, depending on how much you’ve kept up with everything, last September, Harrigan’s Movie & TV Blog has transformed into The Cinescape. Our new direction has been personally fulfilling and a lot of fun. While the blog aspect has chiefly gone away, our new outreach with platforms such as iTunes and YouTube has brought respectable growth.

Though I love the creative writing style that a blog brings, everyday life has made it challenging to find the time to sit down and write up articles and news stories. Sometimes I feel like the way that I share news from outside sources can feel a bit lazy. I was accustomed to researching stories from trusted sources and giving my own spin on them. My co-host Bill and I now share articles via social media from sites like Screen Rant, Variety, Collider, etc. without adding our own flavor to them. But as The Cinescape Podcast has been a new outlet for the way that we share news stories and topics in a live format, it has lessened my feelings regarding my own writing.

Doing our show has been amazing. The rush that I get from sitting down in the studio and broadcasting live for the world to watch and listen to is an incredible feeling. No matter how many or how few people check us out, the sense of doing something that I truly love and have a passion for is rewarding enough. We’re not a hugely popular show, in fact, our YouTube channel currently has 21 subscribers and I’m not sure how many iTunes subscribers we have. The numbers don’t matter. The fact that twice a month, my best friend and I get to hang out and talk movies and TV and have people enjoy our show means the world to me.

As I mentioned, we started our show in September of 2016. Since then, we’ve aired 11 episodes, with the next one set for later today. I feel like the format that we use is conducive to the topics we want to talk about and makes for a fun and informative hour+ of listening/viewing. Our personalities and chemistry really shine and we’ve gotten some great feedback from our fans. We make our show as entertaining as possible and we have lots of laughs. Most shows, you’ll see us drinking beers and going off on tangents. We’ve played trivia games, tazed our producer, and endured insanely hot hot sauce, all for the sake of entertainment.

One of the coolest aspects of doing our show has been the special guests we’ve gotten to interview. People like Robert Butler III (Schmoes Know), Robert Meyer Burnett (Collider), Ashley V. Robinson (Collider), Allen Stewart (Hall of Heroes Super Hero Museum), Eric Cohen (Nostalgia Fest) and the crew from Mixed Nuts Productions have brought a sense of professionalism and made for awesome shows. The connections we’re making have led to some amazing opportunities for us. We have a number of convention appearances coming this year. We’ll be broadcasting live from Nostalgia Fest in April and will have the opportunity to interview celebrities like Gary Busey, Tia Carrere, and a host of 80s/90s icons. We’ll also be at Philadelphia Comic Con, Monster Mania, and some others to be named later.

But there’s something coming up next weekend that I’m losing my mind over. Though not directly related to our show, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity. I recently won Screen Rant’s contest to interview Hugh Jackman at the world premiere of ‘Logan’. Yes, you read that correctly. I’ll be sitting down with Wolverine himself for an interview! I’ll also be seeing ‘Logan’ almost a month early and will be in attendance for the press junket and accompanying receptions. This opportunity could surely be a monumental one for me, personally, and could serve as a springboard for The Cinescape Podcast. Words can’t describe how excited I am, and I can’t thank Screen Rant and Fox Studios enough. I’m hoping that my interview can be shared via our social media pages and YouTube channel so that I can share it with you all.

I don’t consider myself an industry professional by any means. I’m simply a guy that loves movies and TV and has a passion for sharing my thoughts and feelings with people interested in hearing what I have to say. While I hold out hope that Cinescape can eventually lead to a career in “the biz”, I’d still be happy to continue doing what we’re doing and hopefully have others enjoy the content we put out. If you’re a cinephile like myself, check out the show and send some feedback our way. We’re always trying to interact with our fans and love hearing what you have to say.
