'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 4 Episode 1 Review

Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' kicked off season 4 in a big way, with the introduction of Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider. For a network TV show, I really dug the CG work regarding the look of Ghost Rider. He was menacing and brutal, as he murdered a couple of thugs and went as far as ripping out someone's spine (though that was only referenced).

The S.H.I.E.L.D. team has been scattered under the new regime. Coulson and Mack are covertly seeking Daisy, who has gone rogue following the events of season 3. Simmons has an in with the new director, as she is now taking over a more authoratative role. Fitz is working closely with Dr. Radcliffe, after he is shown the Life Model Decoy, Aida.

Though we didn't get a glimpse of the new director, our main team seems distrustful of him, operating covertly. But the real focus of the episode was Daisy/Quake. She has been taking down criminals on her own and has been labeled as a sort of vigilante. With the Sokovia Accords in full effect, Coulson and co. are desperately trying to find her before outside forces are able to. Daisy's interaction and abttle with Ghost Rider was a lot of fun to see.

If the rest of the season is on par with the premiere, season 4 should shape up to be the best season yet. The new 10 PM/ESt time slot allows for a darker tone for ABC, as we saw lots of blood and violence with Ghost Rider. Great start to the season, and I'm super pumped to see a kick-ass Ghost Rider joining the MCU.

My rating: 9 out of 10
