'Fear The Walking Dead' Season 2 Episode 8 Review
AMC's 'Fear The Walking Dead' returned from its mid-season hiatus this weekend. Going back to the cliffhanger in the mid-season finale earlier this spring, our group of survivors fractured, seeing Nick go off on his own and Travis taking Chris away.
This episode focused solely on Nick, showing him struggling to survive on his own. He is very much against killing walkers and begins traveling with them, as he is constantly covered in blood to throw off his scent. Nick encounters a group of men that nearly killed him before being eaten. For comic readers, there is a group that really reminded me of how Nick is using herds of walkers for his own safety, though I won't spoil it in case they are ever used on either of the shows.
Th episode also showed a lot of flashbacks of Nick's time in rehab, noting his relationship with his parents, dealing with his father's death, and a love interest. The scenes did a great job of filling in Nick's story, as he is probably my favorite character on the show. Although a slow episode, it really helped to develop Nick as a character and showed how he's adapting to this world in the same way he adapted to being a homeless junkie. Nick is a true survivor.
Throughout the episode, Nick is being followed by a small group that are watching him. At the end of the episode, they engage Nick and eventually take him to their makeshift village, where he is treated for his wounds. This marks the first real big colony we've seen on the show so far, and it will be very interesting to see the dynamic, as this series takes place in Mexico. Seeing survivors in a different country and culture will be very different from what we've seen on 'The Walking Dead'.
I really enjoyed the episode for what it did in developing Nick's character and broadening the world within the show. I look forward to seeing how the other survivors are coping with everything that happened in the mid-season finale and how they adapt to new situations.
