'Hardcore Henry' Film Review

'Hardcore Henry' was an adrenaline rush that left my brain frazzled. I feel like I have sensory overload, as the first-person camera perspective often left me feeling a tad dizzy. Trying to keep up with all of the action was a small chore in itself.

Though the actual plot of the film wasn't all that great, it wasn't the most important part of the film. The sci-fi revenge type theme was just a way to showcase the intense action and brutal violence that this film beholds. I really enjoyed the fight choreography and special effects that went into making it feel like I was playing a video game. I often felt like I was playing a game like 'Goldeneye' on the N64.
The music choices during the film were quite entertaining, sometimes feeling sarcastic in terms of when they were used. There was a lot of subtle humor that I picked up on and thought was well placed. I like that studio never took itself too seriously and had the courage to try something outside of the film-making box. While certainly not the best film I've ever seen, I wound up enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Checking out the numbers, 'Hardcore Henry' wasn't very well received by critics or audiences, scoring a 47% critic rating and a 57% audience rating according to Rotten Tomatoes. It also only made $9.2 million domestically and $14.3 worldwide.
