Blog Journal #2: Growth

It's been a couple of months since I've written another entry in my blog journal, and boy, has this summer been busy. As I have been consistently putting out new content, looking for ways to improve my own writing as well as ways to grow my blog, I have been hard at work.

The summer has yielded some incredible movie & TV news stories, up and down movies, surprisingly good tv series, and conventions galore. The two big events were Star Wars Celebration and San Diego Comic Con, which I closely covered and followed. I attended my first comic con this summer, at Wizard World Philadelphia. It was a lot of fun and a really cool experience and I'm glad I finaly went after all these years.

I have also landed a few freelance writing positions with different sites online, and though I haven't made any money off of any article yet, it has been great to gain experience and hone my skills. As I've continued to grow in this field, an opportunity presented itself to do a radio show/podcast based off of my blog content.

Earlier this summer, my friend Bill and I were invited to guest on a radio show to talk a bit about the blog. After the show ended, we were offered the chance to do our own show where we could focus on making a show to relay the information we're posting online in a fun, interactive way. After meetings, calls, and numerous e-mails, I am extremely excited to announce that in just a few weeks, I will be re-branding the blog name to fit with our new show! We will be changing the name to "Cinescape" shortly before our first show will air. Nothing will change with our content other than our name and the awesome new opportunities we'll be having to bring YOU, my readers, fun, informative shows, articles, posts, and more.

Preparing for the show has truly been a lot of fun for me. I have secured a few sponsors for the show already, began preparing show notes for the first episode, and even gotten introduction music, courtesy of my cousin, William Higgins (thanks bud!).

The prospect of doing something that I am very passionate about, will have a lot of fun with, and can potentially make money off of is so very intriguing, that this opportunity was a no-brainer. The station we'll be working with has been incredibly helpful in getting all of this together and working with us (Mike, Toxic Radio & Marcus, Wildfire). Being able to do something like this may even lead to being able to cover events, conventions, festivals, film releases and have the chance to interview others in the industry, which is very appealing. These next few weeks will be a bit nerve-wracking as we start getting closer to the first episode. Once everything is finalized, I will post all of the information regarding all of the news regarding the name change and show.

I am really trying to use this experience to not only grow in this field, but also career-wise. My dad is opening up a second bar very soon, and I am looking to get into the business. My ideas for social media marketing and advertising could be very beneficial to the business and I am excited to start making some serious money.

I will always be looking for new ways to grow and expand the blog, in whatever format the readers/viewers may find us. Whether it's via social media, e-mail, webpage, podcast, or youtube, providing you all with enjoyable content will forever remain my number one goal. Thanks for checking out what I've been up to and stay tuned for new things soon!
