'Lights Out' Review

I just got back from an early screening of 'Lights Out', and I have to say, I was very satisfied with this film. With the premise of a spirit that attacks people in the darkness, the trailers don't do this film justice.

Produced by James Wan, 'Lights Out' was a fabulous horror film that kept tensions running high throughout its entirety. I loved how director Fede Alvarez not only incorporated "jump scares" to terrify the audience, but also did a masterful job of using the environment almost as a character in itself.

The acting was great all around, with actors Teresa Palmer, youngster Gabriel Bateman, Alexander DiPersia and Maria Bello serving as the main cast.

I loved the family dynamic of Palmer, Bateman and Bello. The struggle to survive and to combat the spirit haunting the family made for intense scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Having James Wan on as the producer of the film automatically put me in the state of mind where I thought I knew what to expect (as he has done 'The Conjuring' franchise), but this film, in my opinion, was better. It didn't have that cheesy, typical supernatural horror feel, and actually left me with goosebumps as I was walking through the parking lot to get to my car.

As this film doesn't come out until July 22nd, I implore all horror fans to check out 'Lights Out', a film that may have you keeping your lights on after viewing.

My rating: 8 out of 10
