'Ouija' Review

After scrolling through movies to watch earlier tonight, my fiance and I settled on 'Ouija'. Boy, were we in for a treat!

Let me start off by saying that this review will be very different than ones I've done in the past. The main reason being: THIS MOVIE WAS TERRIBLE.

I mean, it was comically bad. At no point in this "horror" movie did I feel that the characters were actually scared of the supernatural happenings, nor did they seem to care that their group of friends was being killed off. I'm sorry, but if a ghost killed my girlfriend (as in the film) I think I would be a bit too broken up to go to school the next day.

I can't imagine sitting in the editing room during the production of the movie, thinking, "This is really good".

The dialogue was bad, the characters were flat, and there was no real emotion in any of the characters. The acting/writing/directing in the film was absolutely awful. It got so bad that my fiance and I were just commenting on how dumb this movie was about halfway through viewing. Everything was completely predictable in that paint-by-numbers kind of way that there was literally no suspense at any point. There is literally not one redeeming quality about anything in this film.

We got excited when we first saw Olivia Cooke (Emma from 'Bates Motel') show up, but even she couldn't save this film, as she was pretty bad in it too.

At one point, when Lyn Shaye (Elise from the 'Insidious' franchise) shows up, it literally felt like an extension or cheap knock-off of 'Insidious'.

Finally, the best part of the movie happened (after it was actually over). Michael Bay's name popped up as a producer, the icing on the dirt cake of a film.

As I'm checking the box office numbers, somehow this film made almost $51 in its theatrical run, though hilariously holds a 7% critic rating and 25% fan rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you're in the mood for a terrible horror movie, check out 'Ouija'.

My rating: 0 out of 10
