'Fear The Walking Dead' S02E05 Review
Last night's episode of 'Fear The Walking Dead' picked up with Alicia and Travis being imprisoned by Connor's group on a ship. They want Alicia to stay, as Jack has feelings for her and they think she could be of use to the group. We say the ship dry-docked on land and looks like a huge ocean-liner. We gain information about the group, with Connor being the leader of it and Reed, his brother being the one who was impaled aboard the 'Abigail' last week, being held captive.
Jack is training Alicia how to scope out other vessels on the radar. Alicia SEEMS to be playing along with Jack, but we're not sure if she actually wants to stay with them or not.
Travis is locked up in a cell below deck and sees Alex, the woman from the raft that they cut loose previously. Alex, still furious at Travis and the group, reveals she was picked up by Connor and divulged information to them about Travis's group. Out for revenge, she was part of the plan that led to the capture of the 'Abigail'. She also tells Travis she had to strangle the burned man that was with her to end his suffering.
Back on the 'Abigail', Nick and a recovering Strand talk about Nick and how Madison is treating the kids like "kids", not letting them be of use. Madison is adamant that Strand lay off of Nick.
Because of Jack's feeling for Alicia, he offers to help Alicia rescue her family before Reed and Connor get to them.
The 'Abigail' arrives ahead of schedule to Connor's ship to rescue Travis and Alicia. Travis, still talking with Alex, tries to explain his actions in cutting her raft loose and to gain some kind of sympathy with her.
Reed, currently tied up, has a conversation with Chris about what he and Connor will do to them. Nick talks Chris down from doing something harsh to Reed.
Jack takes Alicia to see Travis, where he tells her that if she can't come back to free him that she needs to leave him behind.
As Connor calls Reed on the radio, Madison answers and negotiates a hostage swap, ALicia and Travis for Reed.
A gun shot on the 'Abigail' leads to a glimpse of Chris holding a gun outside of the room Reed was in. Chris says that Reed was about to turn because of his wounds, but it is unclear whether he just murdered him or not. Reed's death is sure to complicate the exchange.
Reed does indeed turn, but before he can be put down, Daniel impales him against a wall and comes up with the idea to use him in the exchange anyway, putting a bag over his head to hide his appearance.
Before the exchange, Alicia hides, furthering complicating the exchange. Nick implores Madison to let him be the one to make it, but Madison denies him. The pregnant woman finds Alicia and tries to lock her in the cell Travis was in, but Alicia gets the better of her and locks her up instead.
Travis is then exchanged for Reed, and as Connor takes the bag off of his head, undead Reed bites into his arm and kills another crew member. Madison and Travis escape to a raft as Alicia jumps off of Connor's boat, swimming to safety with Madison and Travis, leaving Jack behind.
This episode set up Alex as a potential villain for the 'Abigail' crew. She is out for blood for them leaving her behind. We're still unsure about how they will get passage to Baja, as Strand's associate has only secured passage for 2 people, not 7. There are 2 episodes left before the mid-season break. The mystery of what lies ahead on Baja will have fans wondering for the next 2 weeks. 'Fear The Walking Dead' will resume season 2 during 'The Walking Dead's mid-season break next year.
