'The Flash' S02E20 Review

Tonight's episode of 'The Flash' was intense! With Barry still without his speed, he and the team have come up with a temporary solution to continue fighting crime, using a Flash hologram to trick criminals into thinking that Flash is still around.

Last episode, Wells has brought up the idea of recreating the particle accelerator explosion to give Barry back his speed, but Barry and other team members are against it, as it could be potentially very dangerous. Henry, Barry's father, is back for this episode and also doesn't want Barry to try this idea.

With the threat of Zoom conquering Earth-1 and still holding Caitlin captive, a solution must come quickly. Zoom, with his "love" for Caitlin, tries to bring out the darkness in her.

Cisco's brother also appears in this episode, and we also see his doppelganger, called Rupture. Rupture attacks Cisco and Dante. Rupture thinks Cisco killed his brother, Reverb, and tries to kill them but they manage to escape.

Wells, continuing to push the particle accelerator issue, knows that Zoom will do on Earth-1 what he did on Earth-2 in terms of killing people and amassing a meta-human army, which does come to fruition. Caitlin tips off the Star Labs team, enabling them to defeat Rupture. But Zoom gets wind of her plot and proceeds to kill all of the police that have stationed in Jitters and also appears to have killed Rupture for failing his mission.

At the end of the episode, Barry agrees to get into the particle accelerator in order to get his powers back, but things go horribly wrong as Barry is seemingly killed, disintegrating. Zoom mocks the team and speeds off.

During the blast, Wally and Jessie, who were in the lab, are hit by the blast wave. Could they now be getting powers as well?

A couple of other interesting points arose in this episode: Iris confesses her true feelings for Barry (finally), and in the beginning of the episode during a conversation with Barry and Henry about what is happening, Barry mentions Jay Garrick, to which Henry replies that "Garrick" is his mother;s maiden name.

If/when we do see the "real" Jay Garrick, there will be some familial ties between he and Barry, which is an interesting twist.

Obviously, Barry is not dead, as we saw scenes from next week's episode. If they are going the comic route, I believe Barry has become an actual part of the speed force and it seems to have transported him to another reality. Barry will have to find his way back to our reality in order to combat Zoom. With only 3 episodes remaining this season, things will start to get extremely crazy.

This was, to me, the best episode we've had in a while.

My rating: 9 out of 10
