Bates Motel S04E05 Review

The latest episode of 'Bates Motel' delved further into Norman's decline into psychosis. While in the mental institution, Norman seems to be having breakthroughs with Dr. Edwards, but we are shown that this is a facade. Norman is imagining his mother, Norma, coming to visit after trying to reach her on the phone. Their interaction during the visit is shown to be fake, with Norman believing she is actually there when in fact she is not.

Norman's brother, Dylan adn current girlfriend, Emma, are furthering their relationship after her lung transplant as Dylan tries to play it straight in looking for a new job in Seattle to follow Emma as she is set to move. Their relationship is surely set to fail, as nothing in this show is ever as it seems.

Norma has an encounter with Dylan's former "neighbor" in Chick as he tells Norma he can fix her broken stained glass window. Chick has a vendetta against her brother, Caleb, for the beating he took from him and their is an uncomfortable exchange between the two during their conversation.

The episode could have been better, especially after coming back from a week break, but the further character and story development is still intriguing.

My score: 7 out of 10
