BvS Takes Huge Second Week Dip

Going into its second week, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' faced a high amount of scrutiny from both critics and fans alike. The movie opened big domestically, raking in over $66 million. But due to negative reviews from most critics, a current 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and bad word of mouth, the film took a huge swan dive in its second week, bringing in only $52 million, a 68% drop.

In terms of numbers and week-to-week drop off, films typically look to have a 30% to 40% drop off. These numbers show the bulk of first-time viewers and repeat viewers. The BvS drop off of 68% tells us that most of the people that planned on seeing the film at all mostly went to see it opening weekend, with the remaining 32% of second week viewers being new or repeat viewers.

The sign of a movie being able to make a lot of money over a length of time relies on getting in as many initial viewers and being able to get repeat viewers. Negative reviews and bad word of mouth have really hurt this movie's potential to sustain a largely profitable theatrical run. That being said, the film has made an estimated $261 million domestically and an estimated $682 million worldwide. The third week numbers will be even more telling when they come in.

Do you think 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will cross the billion dollar mark? or will it fall short due to the problems and negative reviews?
