Bates Motel S04E04 "Lights of Winter" Review
A&E’s ‘Bates Motel’, a modern incarnation of the classic film ‘Psycho’, is a very creepy and suspenseful show. Watching Norman’s mental health decline as his blackouts become more frequent increases the chances for another murder at any point. Freddie Highmore’s portrayal of Norman Bates is inspired. His relationship with his mother, Norma, played by Vera Farmiga, is wholly unnerving and strange. The way Norman projects his mother onto his own split personality is very strange.
This episode, however, was very slow. There wasn’t much in terms of furthering the storylines of the season. Chief Romero seems to be gearing up for a major takedown from the DEA for the murder of another character from season 3. Norman finally seems to want help from his doctor in the mental institution, but who knows if his pleas for help are real? The show won’t be back for 2 weeks after tonight, and the preview for the next episode promises a much more action-packed episode.
My review: 6 out of 10.
